Become a user

As an important UK Hub for world-class research in micro and nanoscience, collaborative multi-user facilities are crucial and we intend to be a model facility. We also liaise extensively with other facilities within Oxford, particularly the Oxford Materials Characterisation Service, and can provide excellent support for all your needs. Please get in touch - even if you do not know about fabrication - and we can help get you started.

How do I become an Oxford Nano User?

The Oxford Nano facilities are open to both academic and non-academic researchers whose institution is based in the United Kingdom. To use our facilities and resources, you may follow either of the procedures below, depending on whether you are an Oxford user or outside user.

Oxford User

In general, if you are interested in accessing the facilities for the first time, contact Luci Bywater at harish_pa@materials.ox.ac.uk in the first instance.

If you are already an Oxford user:

For access to the Nanofabrication cleanroom:

  1. If you are a student or researcher at the University of Oxford, please first attend the Physics General Safety Induction.
  2. Contact Paul Pattison at paul.pattison@materials.ox.ac.uk to organise an induction to the DWB cleanroom.
  3. Contact Pam Triggs at pam.triggs@physics.ox.ac.uk for access to the cleanroom.

For access to the Microfabrication cleanroom:

  1. Attend the Departmental Safety Training organised by the Department of Materials.
  2. Make sure all COSHH forms for the works you intend to do are filled out and have been accepted by the cleanroom manager Radka Chakalova.
  3. Fill in the Begbroke Cleanroom Assess Form and send it to Radka Chakalova at radka.chakalova@materials.ox.ac.uk.

For access to the Oxford Materials Characterisation Service:

  1. Fill in the request form found here: https://www-omcs.materials.ox.ac.uk/request-form

As a non-Oxford user, you should first contact Prof Harish Bhaskaran through harish_pa@materials.ox.ac.uk. Once the Management Team has approved your request, you can follow the procedures below (this should be very quick).
